ЁЯХК️ Faith, Freedom & the Constitution: Why Hindutva Undermines India While Christian Conscience Upholds It
India, in its deepest soul, is a land of conscience—a nation born out of resistance to tyranny and guided by the light of moral freedom. The Constitution of India reflects this by enshrining freedom of religion and conscience as fundamental rights (Article 25). But what we see rising in our land today threatens the very idea of India.
There is a vital difference between Hinduism, a rich, pluralistic religion, and Hindutva, a political ideology rooted not in faith, but in power. While Hinduism invites peace and introspection, Hindutva seeks control, often by demeaning human value through policies like anti-conversion laws and Ghar Wapsi campaigns.
⚖️ Hindutva Laws: Degrading Human Dignity
Let’s examine the effects of anti-conversion laws, Ghar Wapsi campaigns, and other Hindutva-driven agendas:
They Deny Individual Agency
These laws assume that poor, tribal, or Dalit people lack the intelligence or freedom to make personal spiritual choices. This is not protection—it is insulting paternalism. It treats vulnerable communities as gullible, to be “saved” from their own decisions.
They Reduce Faith to Caste or Birth Identity
The idea of “returning” someone to Hinduism (Ghar Wapsi) assumes religion is based on ancestry, not conscience. It makes religion a tribal identity, not a personal conviction—opposing the dignity of thought and spiritual transformation.
They Criminalize Compassion
Christians offering education, healthcare, or prayer are often falsely accused of “inducing” conversions. But helping someone in need is not a crime—it is compassion. These laws discourage charity and demonize service.
They Breed Fear, Not Faith
True faith can never grow in fear. Hindutva laws create an environment of suspicion, surveillance, and social hostility. They do not protect culture—they strangle the human soul.
✝️ The Gospel: Protecting and Elevating Human Conscience
In contrast to the degrading nature of Hindutva politics, the Gospel of Jesus Christ affirms and uplifts the human person in the following ways:
It Recognizes Every Human as Made in the Image of God
No caste, no class, no race is above another. Each individual—rich or poor, tribal or urban—is deeply valued. This truth restores dignity to those whom society rejects.
It Honors Conscience and Free Will
The Gospel never forces belief. It respects the power of personal choice and invites people into a relationship with God freely, without manipulation or coercion.
It Brings True Equality
In Christ, there is neither Jew nor Gentile, male nor female, slave nor free (Galatians 3:28). This radical equality has empowered women, Dalits, tribals, and marginalized communities wherever the Gospel has been received.
It Inspires Service, Not Control
The Christian mission in India has established hospitals, schools, homes for the elderly and orphans, not for gaining converts, but because love compels us to serve. Love is not coercion. Love is the evidence of truth.
ЁЯФН The Problem with Hindutva Policies: Ghar Wapsi & Anti-Conversion Laws
Let’s examine the so-called “Ghar Wapsi” (homecoming) campaigns promoted by Hindutva outfits. These are often glorified as reconversions to Hinduism—but in reality, many of them involve coercion, manipulation, or social pressure on people from tribal and Dalit backgrounds. Ironically, when a person chooses Christianity freely, they are accused of being “brainwashed” or “paid.” But when reconverted to Hinduism under pressure, it is celebrated.
Then there are the anti-conversion laws passed in several states under BJP-led governments. While they claim to stop “forced conversions,” in practice, these laws criminalize voluntary faith decisions, intimidate pastors, target social workers, and violate basic human rights. Even peaceful sharing of one’s beliefs becomes suspect.
This directly contradicts the Constitution and Supreme Court rulings. In the landmark case Rev. Stainislaus vs. State of M.P. (1977), while the Court upheld regulation against coercion, it did not ban conversion through persuasion or preaching. The right to propagate one’s faith—through words, literature, and reasoning—is still protected.
So, we must ask: Why are only conversions to Christianity being policed? Why is voluntary religious change treated as a threat?
ЁЯза Everyone Converts—Every Day
Here’s a truth we often forget: Everyone is being “converted” in some way, every day.
• When someone switches political parties, that’s ideological conversion.
• When you adopt a new lifestyle after watching a documentary, that’s a form of conversion.
• When a person changes their views on climate, gender, caste, or culture—that too is transformation.
Why then is religious conversion singled out for legal scrutiny and public shaming? Because it threatens the monopoly of certain social structures.
True religious conversion is not a threat. It is a spiritual, intellectual, and moral decision. A person must be free to explore truth and follow their conscience—even if that means changing their beliefs. This is the essence of democracy and human dignity.
ЁЯЪи False Accusations: Injustice Against Catholic Nuns in Chhattisgarh
This contrast was made tragically clear when two Catholic nuns were arrested in Chhattisgarh based on false allegations of forced conversion. Despite no evidence, they were treated like criminals for merely serving the tribal poor and living out their faith in peace.
This is not protection of religious harmony. It is abuse of power, and a direct violation of our Constitutional values.
Their arrest reveals what Hindutva truly fears: not conversion, but compassion. Not religion, but freedom of conscience.

ЁЯЗоЁЯЗ│ A Battle for India’s Soul
This is not just a religious issue. It’s a battle for the soul of our democracy.
• Hindutva demeans human dignity by reducing faith to heritage and outlawing personal conviction.
• The Gospel affirms the dignity of every human being and honors the voice of the individual conscience.
We must choose:
Will India be a land where people are punished for choosing their faith?
Or will it be a land where freedom, truth, and compassion are celebrated?
Let us rise—not in anger, but in clarity and courage.
⸻
ЁЯЩП We stand with the Catholic nuns falsely accused. We stand with every Indian whose right to believe, to change, and to live out their faith is threatened.
India is great not because it is uniform, but because it is diverse. Let us defend that greatness by upholding truth, liberty, and the God-given value of every soul.
