📰 Mission Hospital in Chhattisgarh Attacked: Baseless Allegations Fuel Religious Hate
DHAMTARI, CHHATTISGARH | PILGRIM ECHOES REPORT:
Reported By Joshua Thangaraj Gnanasekar | August 1, 2025
A century-old Christian mission hospital in Dhamtari, Chhattisgarh—Matena Hospital—came under violent attack this past week, allegedly orchestrated by right-wing religious fanatics. The hospital, which has been serving the region for over 110 years, became the target of a hate-driven campaign fueled by unverified allegations and a calculated media stunt.
🎤 The Trigger: A Viral Accusation Without Legal Backing
The controversy began when Harish Sinha, a well-known local singer, made explosive claims during a television interview. Sinha alleged that the mission hospital delayed treatment for his pregnant daughter-in-law, resulting in what he claimed was the wrongful declaration of a stillbirth. He further claimed that after moving her to another hospital, the child was born alive—casting suspicion and blame on Matena Hospital.
However, Christian leader Arun Pannalal, President of the Chhattisgarh Christian Forum, has categorically refuted these accusations, calling them "wild, baseless, and contradictory."
“If the hospital truly acted negligently, why didn’t Sinha file a police complaint or at least speak to hospital authorities?” asked Pannalal. “He didn’t obtain a death certificate, he made no formal complaints—just went on a public platform to incite anger. This seems orchestrated, not accidental.”
Even more telling, Sinha’s interview video—which initially aired on a YouTube channel—was taken down shortly after going viral, raising questions about the intent behind the sudden retraction.
🔥 Coordinated Vandalism by Extremist Groups
Soon after Sinha's allegations, members of Bajrang Dal and other Sangh-affiliated groups stormed the hospital, vandalizing property and spreading alarming claims. Among the most chilling of these: that Hindu patients were being intentionally killed unless they converted to Christianity.
Such inflammatory accusations, if taken seriously, would represent a national scandal. But there is no legal or medical evidence supporting the claims. Instead, these seem to serve only one purpose—to demonize Christian institutions and incite communal hatred.
“This is not just about one hospital. It’s an assault on the Christian community as a whole,” Pannalal warned. “The real intent is to provoke public outrage and isolate Christians.”
🛑 Police Inaction and Systemic Bias Alleged
According to Arun Pannalal, this is not an isolated incident in Chhattisgarh.
“In most of these cases, the police arrive only to arrest Christian doctors and staff, while the actual vandals are escorted back to their villages under police protection. It’s a shocking reversal of justice.”
Such systemic failure not only emboldens hate groups but also erodes public trust in the rule of law.
🙏 Call for National Awakening
Pannalal’s statement ends with an impassioned plea:
“This hatred will destroy the country. It is time for India to wake up, to reject this fanaticism, and to uphold the values of justice, compassion, and constitutional freedom.”
